Adynatopia – The famous perspective experiments of MC Escher give rise to Adynatopia, a game that tricks your eyes and your brain just because it can. Your goal is to move to the shadowy pawn figure somewhere on the screen. You get there by… well, by forgetting about conventional game physics and just seeing what can occur. From quantum foam to the universe as a whole, The Scale of the Universe lets you smoothly scroll from the tiniest particle to the largest star clusters in a gorgeous, seamless manner. Not only is it visually appealing, you can click on everything you see for tidbits of information. Think of it as the best way to gather a bunch of knowledge that will make you sound smart at parties!

ChatChat – From VVVVVV creator Terry Cavanagh comes a free massively multiplayer online cat simulation! Ok, so it’s not very accurate, but you get to play as a cat with a bunch of other people pretending to be cats as you run around doing cat-like things. Purring. Meowing. Napping. Gathering mice to deliver them to the doorstep. Lots of fun, and completely pointless, which may or may not increase your enjoyment of the game!

If you’ve played a point and click game before, you’ll have a good idea how to get started in this latest Reemus adventure. Use the mouse to examine things, talk to characters, and advance through dialogue. You can move from area to area using the arrows at the bottom of the screen. Your inventory holds useful items you’ll pick up and it sits right beside the map, a handy little tool that, well, shows you where you are!

Gameplay mechanics aside, what really draws players to The Several Journeys of Reemus is its sense of humor. From the wacky environments to the ludicrous plots, nigh-insane characters, and witty dialogue, this game doesn’t take anything seriously, not even filing paperwork. You’ll click along at a steady clip, enjoying every scene and every bit of text presented before your eyes. This Reemus release is quite a bit longer than previous chapters, though some of the puzzles do seem easier than before. Still, it’s tough to turn down a game when exterminating giant beetles is considered a menial task!

Picma Squared – At its core, Picma Squared is a classic pen and paper game, sort of like a crossword puzzle but with a little more complexity. Really, though, this game is logic puzzle solving at its finest, featuring a flawless presentation and game controls that are an almost perfect replacement for an actual piece of paper. Your goal is to fill in the squares by using the number clues placed around the grid. The game walks you through the rules without much of a hassle, so you’ll get the hang of things pretty quickly. Then, it’s on to supremely challenging logic puzzle solving!

Clockwords: Act 1 – Clockwords mixes a word game with a fast-paced defense game, and if that sounds like it won’t work, you’re about to be proven delightfully wrong! Type a word in the bottom of the screen to load the cannon and blast incoming enemies. The longer the word, the more powerful the attack. Keep spelling as quickly as you can, fighting off the evil scientist with the power of your vocabulary. It’s great fun that gets frantic on occasion, but because it’s such a smart word game, you’ll want to play it until you’ve spelled everything in the dictionary!

Knightfall – One part puzzle game, one part RPG, this gorgeous game is easily one of the best puzzle hybrids you can find on the web. Drill through groups of blocks, getting rid of chunks of like-colored squares as you hunt for treasure and get rid of enemies with your massively cool drill weapon. Unlockables and unique treasures add a bit more of an RPG aspect to things, but the core gameplay is solidly puzzle in nature, and it’s very, very good!

The year is 2117, and less than a decade ago, aliens invaded Earth. A group of soldiers was trained and dispatched to take care of the threat, and after four years of combat, victory was theirs. However, a zombie virus created during the war is still loose, and it’s in your blood! On top of that, the aliens have suddenly re-appeared. It looks like there won’t be any shortage of fighting in the days to come, which is a good thing for us, since we’re just starting the game!

Raze 2 plays out through a series of campaigns that act as small arenas where enemies constantly spawn and attack. Along with your team mates, you must gather items that appear, including ammo, shields, health, and weapons, and fend off the hordes one by one. After kicking some alien/zombie butt, you get to visit the game’s upgrades shop where you can purchase dozens of weapons as well as handfuls of ability/stat upgrades. The customization possibilities are vast, and you’ll be spending quite a lot of time trying out new weapons and tweaking your load out.

There’s very little not to like about Raze 2, as the game mechanics and upgrades system are almost perfectly tuned. The visuals can be small and unclear at times, especially when you’re trying to determine which kind of weapon appeared in front of you. In the end, though, it’s not about tiny sprites on the screen, it’s about your skills in combat and your ability to wield and manage weapons. Mastery only comes after hours of practice, and Raze 2 gives you plenty to do during that time!

If you have even the smallest interest in a free combat game, Raze 2 should be on your radar. It’s deep enough to savor for days and weeks on end, but you can pick it up and play without much trouble!

Scarlet Stranger – Reviving the lost art of the humorous action RPG, Scarlet Stranger gives you sword, shield, and a healthy amount of items to hunt for as you slash and stab your way through the castle. Buying and crafting equipment is key to staying alive, and you’ll want to look your best when you finally rescue the princess!

Eerie Asylum – What’s a new week without a scary point and click escape game to sink your mouse into? Eerie Asylum was closed almost 40 years ago due to unsafe conditions. Now, the place is in ruins, but some other strange things are going on, as you’ll quickly discover as you set out to explore the dusty halls.

My “Dear” Boss – It’s a time honored tradition to hold a serious grudge against your boss for, you know, giving you work to do. Take out your anger with this hilarious “smacking” game. Start off in the office with the big guy yelling at you once again. Then, time your mouse click to give him a good boot out the window. Watch him fly, then try again to see how far you can send him!

Abobo, for the uninitiated, was a brutish side character who appeared in a number of Battletoads and Double Dragon games back in the glory days of gaming. He never did too much apart from looking mean and being dumb, so naturally he received a number of poundings over the years. Well, now it’s Abobo’s time to shine. His adventure is largely a sidescrolling brawler similar to the games he previously appeared in, only now, everything’s all mixed up and crazy. Instead of just beating up street thugs, you’ll also encounter goombas. Instead of moving to an alleyway for the next stage, you’ll get sucked down a toilet and have to swim through a water level from Super Mario Bros. (where enemies from Mega Man block your way, of all things). It’s anything but ordinary, but that wackiness is exactly what makes the game so darn fun.

Abobo’s Big Adventure looks and feels just like a game from 1985, but with many elements pulled in from other games. It’s a visual treat and a nostalgic trip back in time, not to mention being fun, challenging, and hilarious all at once. Sit down and be prepared for the 80s to wash over you like a neon-colored mist!

Fancy Pants Adventure: World 1 & 2 – What started as a little Sonic-like platform adventure game filled with personality and speed (and pants) has grown into a free game empire, spawning sequels, ports, and fans who have memorized every nook and cranny of the game’s levels. Fancy Pants Adventure is a fast-paced platform game that’s all about staying on the run, gathering collectibles, and smashing the occasional enemy that gets in your way. Each level has a tremendous sense of exploration, and even though you’ll mostly be focused on getting to the exit, there’s plenty of cool stuff to find if you care to venture from the main path. If you only play one free platform game in your life, make it a Fancy Pants Adventure game!

Final Ninja Zero – Can you really go wrong with a Nitrome game? The well-to-do studio has produced some of the free game world’s favorite releases, and when it comes to platformers, Nitrome knows its stuff. Final Ninja Zero puts you in the shoes of an agile yet sneaky ninja armed with shurikens and a grappling hook to swing around with. Challenging, and a complete pleasure to look at, Final Ninja Zero should be a staple in your platform arsenal.

Cactus McCoy 2 – If you want an amazing platform game that includes a living, breathing cactus ambulating in the old west, you have found your fix! Cactus McCoy 2 is polished to a fine shine, featuring gameplay that looks and feels like it came from a big studio that employs dozens of programmers. Tons of shooting, tons of action, and enemies that are much more than punching bags for your bullets. Cactus McCoy 2 is a platform adventure game you won’t get tired of soon!
